Topic #9

Hi everyone! Can you believe we only have 3 weeks left of class? The year is going by fast and you guys will be graduating possibly this year or early next year. This is the time to really think about what you want to do after graduation and to analyze your philosophy concerning your professional life. For instance, my philosophy is integrating what I do outside of work with what I do inside of work. I am the leader of our volunteer committee at my company. I believe it is important to showcase that you have what it takes to be a leader inside and outside of work. This does influence my work because at work when I come across a challenge I always think of the public, our shareholders, the customers, and the associates. This calls for interdisciplinary thinking. My volunteer work allows me to go beyond the four walls and get to know the shareholders, different customers, and other leaders in the industry. Allowing yourself to learn as much as you can outside of work will improve your relationships and work ethic within the workplace.

This is just an example and a little bit about my own professional philosophy. Everyone has a different philosophy toward their professional life which makes us all unique. I would like you to answer 3 questions this week:

1. Discuss your personal philosophy concerning your professional life.

2. How is or isn't this philosophy interdisciplinary?

3. How have your career goals altered?

  1. I feel that I am a very determined person, and that I am very goal oriented when it comes to professional things. But, with that being said I also do not like to stress about things. I like to do the best job that I can do, but when I can do no more I will let it go. I feel that this is an interdisciplinary perspective, because it shows two different sides of my personality. One side is is determined to work hard, and the other side wants to live a stress free life, and they are combined into the work ethic that I have now. As I get older I notice that I am more driven to get the job that I want, but I also realize that it is not worth killing myself over it.

  2. When it comes to my professional life I aim to work hard and follow God's will. This philosophy is slightly broad but very straight forward. It's not interdisciplinary because the two tend to come as a package. If I work hard, I am doing God's will and to do God's will I have to work hard. My career goals are the same: do my best and work hard for the glory of God.

  3. I too, believe that working hard to do my best is at the heart of my personal philosophy. As Heather and Kevin mentioned, it has a far-reaching impact, because if we don't work our hardest, we see it's effects. There are many things at work here, and an interdisciplinary framework reveals we must maintain a balance of all factors involved. We do so naturally, so the interdisciplinary nature can be somewhat masked .

  5. Hey Gina
Good input about working hard. It is difficult to get anything done if you don't work hard.

  6. My career goals have not altered, since the beginning of this course. Since my goal is to ultimately become a medical doctor, I think being the best doctor I can be is my philosophy, and this applies not only to my future career goals, but to every are in my life. I do not think my philosophy has a interdisciplinary side to since its simply just working hard in whatever it is I'm taking part of.

  7. Gina:

I agree with you, the only way to obtain the results that you desire is thorough working hard towards your goal, and similarly the opposite will occur if we do not work towards what we want.

    Kevin:

I also agree with you, like I previously stated working hard is the ultimate way of achieving our goals.

  8. I agree with most here, except that you have to work hard to achieve your goals. You don't necessary have to work "hard" as you can work "smart" and reach the same goals.

I have realized in my life, that I can work smart and put in the right amount of effort and still get the same outcome if I were to put everything I have into something.

  9. My personal philosophy concerning my professional life is that I aspire to work in an environment that serves my heart. Although making good money is important that will not keep me waking up early every morning of everyday. Doing something I love and am passionate about will make that everyday battle easier.

I feel that my philosophy is interdisciplinary because molding your career into something you love and using various outlets is what interdisciplinary is all about.

This course has not made my career goals alter but be more define I would say. Definitely I now have a destination as opposed to a dorection of where I would like my career to be.

  10. My personal philosophy to live is just to live it to the fullest. Tomorrow is not a promise. It isnt necessarily interdisciplinary. My career goals have not altered, I still want to work for a non profit organization.
